The Lafourche Basin Levee District manages the levees for approximately 66 miles of levee and the associated trails and amenities along the Mississippi River. The consultant team was able to partner with the levee district to analyze the levee corridor, set planning and design goals, and develop conceptual programming and plans for the improvement and amenitization of the overall system.
The improvements include program components such as ship terminals, wetland parks, trail system expansion, as well as landings and overlooks engaging with the river. The entire system is connected by the associated trails system as well as a reestablished authentic environment benefiting the areas visitors and residents.
